- BITCOIN HACKS
SO apparently MAJOR U.S. figures such as Barrack Obama, Kanye West, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Joe Biden had their official Twitter accounts HACKED. The scam used on their accounts is what’s referred to as the “double your Bitcoin scam” and works as a way to get people to give money (in the form of Bitcoin) to specific account expecting to get double the amount back…. And then obviously never does. The accounts all tweeted something like QUOTE “everyone is asking me to give back and now is the time. You send $1000 and I send you back $2000.” The Tweets were noticed and deleted within MINUTES.
This specific TYPE of scam has been around for ages. But never has it been used in such a wide spread, high profile, coordinated effort. According to BBC news, there were actually a ton of other, lower profile accounts hacked at the same time as well, making people think it may have actually been Twitter’s platform itself that was compromised, not those specific users.
Given that money seems like the motivation law enforcement will be following the money… But they have QUOTE “some strong questions for Twitter about how this could have happened. In the short time it was online, the address displayed in the tweets received hundreds of contributions totaling more than $100,000.” END QUOTE, according to BBC. Be aware of these scams guys! Because these people will not be getting that money back! And if you see something of this nature posted to YOUR Twitter account, be sure to delete and report it immediately!
2. Trump asked hospitals to report to him directly instead of to the CDC?
So a lot of the press is raising an alarm bell about the Trump administration asking hospitals NOT to send information about Coronavirus to the CDC but rather to the HHS.
What is this all about?
Well, hard to say. The administration claims that they are trying to streamline the way data is reported. Other news outlets are ceding that the CDC DID take over a week to update at certain points, so this could make sense.
HOWEVER, the HHS database does not seem like it will be open to the public, raising MAJOR RED FLAGS and concerns about transparency during this on-going crisis. BUT they are letting the CDC have access to the data gathered by the HHS – so it seems, we will still be getting covid updates through the CDC website, but the information will be passed through another inter government agency before ending up on our screens. Hm. Seems MORE complicated to me….
There has been a TON of criticism from Trump and his fans over the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Trump himself even re-tweeted a cartoon mocking Dr. Fauci. This is fascinating to me as these are people HE selected to lead us through this difficult time. It begs the question, if Fauci is so bad, and the CDC is so bad, why did Trump put them in charge of this important fight?
3. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, also known as the Notorious RBG as her documentary dubbed her, was just hospitalized at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore
Fortunately, she is doing fine now. She was brought to the hospital at Sibley Memorial with fevers and chills but was moved to Johns Hopkins for further evaluation. Turns out, she did have an infection and will be treated over the next few days with antibiotics at the hospital so she can remain under observation. RBG is 87 and adept at carrying on her job from a hospital bed as well as with social distancing measures.
For anyone who doesn’t know, her nickname, notorious RBG is a play on the name of the rapper notorious BIG.
4. COVID UPDATES:
- According to Mayor Holt of OKC, of the 50 biggest cities in America, 46* require the use of face masks in indoor public areas. The only 4 cities NOT to do so are: Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Omaha, and Colorado Springs.
- Governor Stitt tested positive? Announced during a press conference on Wednesday morning. He said he is not feeling bad, just a little bit achy. He is now isolating from his family and will only be working from home to keep away from all others. He is now contact tracing to notify anyone he might have infected. He advised us all to be aware that the Coronavirus is still here in the US.
- Another record day for Oklahoma – 1075 new cases of covid reported in the past 24 hrs.
- Cases are up in 41 states which means 41 states are FAILING to flatten the curve
- Houston has announced that they will start classes completely online in the fall. As a reminder, Los Angeles and San Diego have announced they will be doing the same. A shift that certainly makes it harder for parents to return to work, but keeps communities safer.
With the U.S. COVID numbers continuing to worsen, it’s hard to imagine how we will bounce back economically. Several different areas have been forced to move BACKWARDS from their re-opening plans, and
And that’s the news du jour!
