I get a ton of questions on my Instagram stories about my morning elixirs. These have been a game changer for me, health wise. They help me drink a ton of water to start my day and get a boost of healthy vitamins.
I’d be lying if I said I came up with this myself- Lauryn Evarts of the Skinny Confidential invented this drink. She is a pro at coming up with quick, cheap, and easy skinny tips.
Here is the original, BASIC recipe.
I do a ton of variations and will discuss in a later post- but wanted to start with the simple version.
DIRECTIONS:
- Take one large cup.
- Fill almost to top with ice.
- Squeeze half a grapefruit over ice.
- Add a dash of Cayenne Pepper (go easy with this the first few times you make it… It can get real spicy, real quick!).
- Add a splash of vinegar (it is important that you use organic vinegar that is “with the mother”).
- Fill the rest up with sparkling or regular water (I personally love a hint of bubbles!).
Does this sound gross? Well if you like grapefruit, you’ll love it. Otherwise you can sub in other citrus fruits like oranges or lemons. I even will mash strawberries or raspberries instead to mix it up.
The thing is though… Each of these ingredients is DELIBERATELY chosen to help you stay healthy/ skinny. Here is what each of them do:
GRAPEFRUIT:
- Grapefruit is a known skinny friend. Low in calories and studies link it to weight loss.
- It also functions as a diuretic… This means it helps rid your body of toxins faster and fights bloat (also makes you pee a ton!).
- Grapefruit is also a great source of Vitmain C (duh) and helps improve heart health.
CAYENNE PEPPER:
- This little baby speeds shit up. Literally. It gives your metabolism a huge boost, decreases appetite, & promotes weight loss.
- Cayenne pepper has also been proven to prevent migraines. Good thing you’ll already have it in your system before that afternoon slump rolls around!
VINEGAR (with the mother):
- When vinegar is “with the mother,” it just means that it has live probiotics in it. Probiotics help keep your gut healthy & digestion regular. It will look gunky at the bottom but just go with it- your gut will thank you later.
- Like the grapefruit, vinegar is also a diuretic – bye bye toxins & bloat!
- Vinegar had also been linked to weight loss because it decreases appetite & lowers blood sugar levels.
- Vinegar is also a major cancer fighter & reduces your risk of heart disease.
WATER:
- As a touted fave of the Kardashian clan, drinking extra water has so so many benefits including:
- Flushing toxins
- Improves digestion
- Improves mood
- Improves circulation
- Aids weight loss
- Helps fight diseases of many kinds
- Keeps your skin looking #FLAWLESS
- Be sure to get your 8 glasses a day and even throw in an extra one or two from time to time.
So this group of ingredients is pretty much a perfect start to your day huh? And I swear, the more you drink it, the more you will love it and come to look forward to making it in the mornings. I love making mine after a morning workout- such a healthy reward for yourself!
