Hey babes! Today I wanted to talk work wear. More and more offices are transitioning into “business casual” dress codes and thus it can be hard to strike a happy medium.
I am not sure if everyone knows this, but I actually used to be a professional stylist! I worked retail for YEARS helping young women decide what to wear and ultimately made a career out of it. I left that job to pursue this blog but I still LOVE helping people pick out clothes… So here are my general rules of thumb for professional workplace attire:
My rules of thumb are:
- No boobs: cover up the girls!
- No knees: no pants with holes, dresses & skirts should reach the top of your knee at least.
- No shoulders: throw a cardigan or blazer over your sundresses/ tanks.
- No feet: wear shoes that don’t show your heels or toes.
- Nothing too tight: leave the bodycon dresses for Saturday night!
Basically cover the goods, and you’re good! No one needs to see those at work anyway – you’ll be way more comfy covered.
Here is an example of an easy outfit that transitions well from work to play and it just made out of things you bought separately! Heels will always look cuter but I have trouble going the whole day in them given that I am often on my feet.
A cute “off the shoulder dress” worn ON the shoulders with a cute, colorful statement blazer. Both are casual, but the blazer gives it a professional edge. I wore black sneakers with it for comfort and to stay on trend.
If I were hitting happy hour after work, I would be good to go – just throw my blazer over my arm and make my dress OFF the shoulders cuz I am OFF the clock! Add a little gloss and a spritz of perfume and I am totally ready to be social!
My blazer is Rebecca Minkoff, dress is a chambray sundress from Impeccable Pig boutique, and the sneakers are Steve Madden.
Hope you love this look! xx
